In 2005 the President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on celebration of St. Tatyana's Day - the Day of students. However students have celebrated it on January, 25 since 18th century. Then on this day in all regions of Russia there was merry-making of students symbolizing the end of winter.
The remarkable students’ tradition originates in 1755. On January, 25, on the day of Great martyress Tatyana, Empress Elizabeth signed a decree on establishment of the Moscow University. That is why we give our special congratulations to all teachers and students of the Moscow State University, and also to all Tatyanas!
