The Interpreter showing and press conference
The Atrium Cinema Center held a showing of The Interpreter followed by a press conference on July 12 to mark 450 years of interpreting in Russia.
In attendance were legendary interpreters such as Viktor Sukhodrev, Leonid Volodarsky, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs A.B. Fedorov and V.Y. Faekov, and representatives of United International Pictures and the TransLink Translation and Interpreting Agency. More than 200 journalists covered the event.
Only during this showing, the film was voiced over with the trademark voice of Volodarsky, who hosts Once in the Rain on the Silver Rain radio station.
About the film and its promotion.
The Interpreter is a tense and dramatic thriller from director Sidney Pollack starring Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman. With a budget of $80 million, it has grossed about $150 million worldwide. Besides international terrorism in the 21st century in the corridors of power at the UN and a love story between two people of conscience, the film offers an inside look at the interpreting profession. This is precisely why UIP chose to partner with TransLink to promote the film in Russia:
- On April 14, TransLink showed The Interpreter to teachers at the Maurice Torez Linguistic University in Moscow at an international conference. The presentation was conducted in the form of a paper titled “The Image of the Interpreter in Russia.”
- On May 14th, the film was introduced at the Miss Spring 2005 beauty pageant, an annual event held by the State Management University and the Student Union at GUU. Miss Translink Interpreter was also chosen. Photo report.

450 Years of Interpreting in Russia.
On April 5, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the interpreting profession in Russia and the 50th anniversary of the Language Services Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a gala reception was held with the participation of Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, legendary interpreters and Foreign Ministry employees.
