Translation Memory (TM) Technology

Our translators and managers do well in the world of modern technologies. The invention of the TM- Translation Memory system has become one of the most successful program solutions for translators.

The Translation Memory system is a database that stores completed translations. The TM Technology works on the principle of saving completed translations: during the translation process, the TM saves the source segment (sentence) and its translation. When working on a new text, received for translation, the system compares each of the sentences with those saved in its segment database. If an identical or similar source segment is found, the translation of that segment appears, together with the translation, and an indication of the percentage of similarity is shown. Words and phrases that differ from the saved text are highlighted in color. That way, the translator need only translate the new segments and edit the partial matches. Every change or new translation is saved in the TM. Translation Memory supports an immense amount of languages (about 60) and the amount of saved information is unlimited.

Furthermore, the Translation Memory system allows the use of the "Center – Periphery" system. For example, TransLink is constantly working with over 500 translators. Each of them contributes to the central database that is located in the company’s head office. That way, TransLink’s shared Translation Memory database is constantly growing.

(The system allows you to import and export from any format to any other format) In other words, you provide us with your text in any format that is convenient for you, and you receive your translation back in that same format or any other format of your choosing.

Attention! Do not confuse the TM system, which aids the work of translators and operates only in a consulting mode, with machine translation systems (which TransLink does not use on principle) that provide translations that are worthy only of being included in the annals of “translational opus” of some translation portal.
